The collaboration between Cast Resource and MTI continues to raise the standard in the world of mining equipment. The newly released UVT 8090 S Shotcrete Sprayer features a revamped service console to provide easier access for maintenance personnel, dramatically reducing equipment downtime.

Technician Patrick Labelle cites the easily accessible service controls as one of the main selling points of the MTI design.

“When your equipment is down for service, the operation slows,” says Labelle, “our goal was to manufacture a unit that could withstand the harsh underground environment and deliver performance for the guys who operate it.”

The design process began by surveying and sourcing input from current and previous shotcrete operators/technicians. This approach has proved successful with other MTI projects, allowing the hands-on knowledge of operator and service personnel to influence the new design.

The Perfect Balance

“It’s the perfect balance,” says Labelle, “a best in class, high-powered shotcrete sprayer that can now run continuously with minimum maintenance downtime. For the service personnel, it’s a dream.”

The UVT 8090 S is also supported by its rapid parts and service delivery. MTI takes advantage of its location in one of the largest mining Supply Clusters in the world to be able to design, build and source equipment from local parts and service providers.

“When the customer buys from us, they know that if the equipment needs service, we have the parts ready,” says Labelle, “if we don’t, we’re getting them within twelve hours. That’s what makes our customers confident to do business with us.”

For twenty years, building productive, highly durable utility vehicles has been MTI specialty. With the unveiling of their UVT 8000 PC20, MTI has provided a safe and simple answer to a recurring logistical problem: how can we get our team to their destination safely, and back again?

The newly designed UVT 8000 PC20 can transport up to twenty people in a ROPS/FOPS cabin, making it the industry’s highest-capacity personnel carrier. Reducing the amount of traffic helps mine operators keep ramps obstacle-free, and single-ride transport allows for more efficient transfer times for personnel.

Fewer underground vehicles also means fewer emissions, greater safety and an overall improved work environment, says service technician Patrick Labelle.

“The PC20 will take the place of four personnel carriers. Because we’ve designed it with an closed cabin and full structural support to protect occupants from debris, it’s safer than smaller carriers.”

Enjoying The Ride

Operators who need to cross vast driving distances will also appreciate the PC20‘s other design emphasis: seating in the PC20 features air-ride suspension, ensuring the shocks and bumps of underground ramping are absorbed by air shocks, providing the twenty travelers with a smooth and comfortable ride.

“When we’re designing, we talk to the operators first,” says Labelle, “we make sure the mechanics can service the equipment easily and we make sure the drivers are comfortable when using it. Even though the company bought it, it’s the miners’ experience that matters. That’s how MTI designs.”

Mining Technologies International has announced a business alliance with Cast Resource, teaming Canada’s largest privately-owned manufacturer of mining equipment with the industry’s most reliable provider of remanufactured goods.

The partnership has already been fruitful, as the first design under the new collaboration, the UVT 8050, will be unveiled in the summer of 2011. The product will combine MTI’s adaptable UVT line with Cast’s highly-specialized shotcrete sprayer.

Design meets Durability.

“The UVT 8050 has already gained market acceptance,” said Cast Resource Managing Director Blair Dickson, “you will see it become the industry standard as a wet shotcrete sprayer makes the mine cleaner, brighter, and safer for the operators.”

The sprayer is mounted on MTI’s articulated carrier frame to access narrow drift mines, and its 180 degree spraying arc maximizes shotcrete coverage. The UVT 8050 also keeps the concrete and aggregate damp to lessen airborne particulates, a development that will improve underground air quality.

“Operator safety is a concern,” said Dickson, “and you will see this technique’s continued advancement and acceptance.”

Serviceability, Stability and Longevity.

Cast Resource’s reputation and quality standards was a deciding factor in the partnership, said MTI Marketing Director Ryan Lipic. “It was important to our clients to realize they were ensured of MTI’s superior expectations of reliability and quality. Cast’s expertise lends itself to serviceability, stability and longevity.”

The collaboration also allows Cast to utilize its state of the art modifications with MTI’s durable UVT line, making equipment adaptability the new model of efficiency.

“Customers want packages,” says Parts Manager Ray Duguay, “the advantage of MTI’s UVT product line is that it is extremely versatile, the equipment is all standardized. The base remains the same, but the customer can pick, choose and modify the parts.”

The partnership was a natural fit, said Dickson. “MTI needed highly specialized equipment to compliment their Utility Vehicle line, and Cast is able to integrate our knowledge into modifications of their product.”

Good Neighbours. Good Partners.

In an industry long-dominated by international companies, both Cast and MTI represent two of the most innovative players to emerge in Canada.

“Nobody else in the industry does remanufactured equipment,” says industry sales veteran Duguay, “others may refurbish or refabricate using reused parts, but Cast builds it from the ground up, brand new.”

The two companies are practically neighbours in Sudbury’s industrial heartland, and the proximity of the two companies enables the customer to see a quicker process when modifications are required.

Better Than New.

Since 1994, Cast Resources has set the industry standard for service and reliability, offering the industry’s only “good-as-new” warranty. Their core strength has been not only in their quality of their remanufactured products, but in their ability to modify and customize equipment, bringing on-the-floor flexibility to their clients.

The reason Cast can offer such exceptional service, says Senior Manager of Business Development Richard Morin, is because the vehicles are designed and modified with the operators in mind. Cast’s manufacturing philosophy begins with the people who will be operating and servicing the equipment.

“You do the little things to make that customer happy, and the operators will fall in love with your product. Clients know when you’ve put the extra effort in, and in this industry, word of mouth travels very fast.”

Dickson also sees the fluid partnership redefining the client experience in the equipment manufacturing and service industry.

“With the new business alliance, customers now have an end-to-end solution for all their equipment needs,” said Dickson,

Ryan Lipic was happy to see the two leaders in innovation reach a business agreement, and sees the potential in having closely-integrated partners benefit the industry as a whole.

“MTI demands the best from its business partners. We needed a committed, innovative and competitive partner to meet our customers’ needs. With Cast Resources, you are in good hands.”
